The Northeast Normal University and Jilin Province Museum of Natural History was founded on May 12, 1987, formerly known as the natural Department of Jilin Province Museum. It was originally subordinate to the Department of culture of Jilin Province. The original site of the museum was located at No. 3, Guangfu North Road, Changchun City. On January 1, 2001, in order to make the Jilin Province Museum of Natural History get better development and play a greater role, government of Jilin provincial decided to assign the construction site of the Jilin Province Museum of Natural History to Northeast Normal University, keep the brand of 'Jilin Province Museum of Natural History' and the status of independent enterprise legal person. On May 9, 2001, Northeast Normal University decided to set up The Northeast Normal University Museum of Natural History , which formed a unique museum and two cards.
The new museum is located at 2556 Jingyue street, Changchun City, Jilin Province, adjacent to Jingyuetan National Forest Park. The venue covers an area of 54000 square meters, with a construction area of 14700 square meters, an exhibition hall area of 6000 square meters and a warehouse area of 3000 square meters. The new museum was officially opened to the public on May 1, 2007.
